A few months back, I decided to add an additional loft to the shop. I wanted to take advantage of as much of the large amount of unused vertical space the shop has. The first loft served two purposes: 1) It created a large storage area and 2) It created two rooms. One for machine tools, one for wood working. It’s important to keep these as separate as possible due to oil/dust contamination. Now the second loft is really just an addition of joists between the trusses above the bays. The second loft provides 16ft x 24ft of light duty storage. At the same time I expanded the first loft in front of the bays, adding an 8ft x 24ft storage space. All said and done, another $1k in materials. At least I can finally be somewhat organized :).
