The shop.

18 Nov

I have been putting of this post for some time. Part of me wanted to wait until it was 100% finished, but I can’t wait any longer. We passed a major milestone last week. All of our building related permits passed final inspection last week, nearly 1 year to the date they were issued. I’m just plain amazed. I could not have done it without the help of some great friends and family.

Here’s the quick back story:

Two years ago, my brother and I decided to build a new shop on our families property here in Canby. The eventual goal is to use it to clean out the barn and start restoring it.  (And to store our machine tools/toys…). We decided to order a kit and build it ourselves, outsourcing only the concrete work. This effort first started in the fall of 2012 with the initial ground clearing. In the late summer 2013 the building was ordered and delivered. Permits were pulled at this time and we worked through the fall and winter to get the core of the building up. We continued work on the building through the spring-summer-fall of 2014, mainly on weekends.

Specs: 30x48x14ft, 6″ concrete floor with radiant heat, (2) 10×12 roll up doors, 4 windows, and covered in 8″ Hardi Plank.

I will update the shop page with more information in the future. Until then, here’s the final project from the outside.

There’s still a ton left to do inside and some minor cleanup/gravel work outside to finish- but I’m super happy it’s to this point and we can start using it.
